Exactly What I’d Do to Recover if I Lost Everything Overnight

What would you do if you woke up and had nothing?

Like someone smashed the reset button on your life. They unplugged the system before it was properly shut down.

  • No money
  • No assets
  • No followers
  • No experience

After realizing your new reality, and maybe panicking a bit, you’d need to start making a recovery plan.

I watched a YouTube video today where Matt Diggity explained what he would do in that hypothetical situation, and it sounded fairly similar to what I’d do.

Of course, everything is clearer in hindsight. We can look back 5 years and see all of the obvious mistakes we made. Some form of mistakes and missteps are inevitable.

That’s part of life.

You can’t change the past, but looking back can help you make better decisions moving forward. And sharing your reflections helps people who are currently where you were 5 or 10 years ago.

If I watched Matt’s video 3 or 4 years ago, it probably would’ve saved me a great deal of time and effort.

I’m going to share how I’d start recovering if I woke up without any money, business connections, or experience.

Start with a passion

I decided to start a blog ~5 years ago. I did that because I enjoyed writing.

I heard about people making a lot of money from their blogs, and writing was something I enjoyed — regardless if I made a ton of money doing it.

Starting from absolute zero, I’d choose to pursue something I enjoy. And I’d go all in on that.

Where I went wrong was avoiding feedback.

Thinking about other people reading the articles I was writing was incredibly stressful. I just wanted random internet users to read the article — not anyone I knew.

If I needed to start from zero, I would embrace feedback quickly.

When I finally started working with clients, I heard that my writing was boring or too repetitive, or the intro was off. That hurt. But if I’d heard that years earlier it would’ve…
