How I’ve Leveraged Medium To Build A Business On My Terms

When I started writing on Medium, my only objective was to earn money from Medium. If I could write articles whenever I wanted, about whatever topic I was interested in, and earn a few hundred dollars, I’d be happy.

I treated Medium like another freelance writing client.

I started publishing consistently in September 2021 and had earned $3,000 by the end of December.

Medium became my favorite client.

There were no due dates or edit requests. But, I had no clue how much Medium would pay me. Some months I earned $2,000+ and other months I earned $400.

I learned it’s best to average it out instead of comparing month to month because some stories would go viral, which wasn’t really within my control.

Since I started writing consistently on Medium, I’ve learned that getting paid from the Partner Program isn’t the end goal.

One day I got a business lead that said they’d found me on Medium.

Then another.

And another.

And another…

The Medium Partner Program payments quickly turned from a “client” to a bonus.

It was like getting paid to advertise. I could create content that fueled business growth, and get paid for it.

I’ve earned $10,000+ from the MPP. But I’ve earned way more from the leads and clients who found me via Medium.

I’m going to share some of the strategies I use to market and grow my business while writing and earning a nice bonus from Medium.

Give them the bag

One of the best things you can do is share your best stuff.
