How This Crazy Website Made $1,037,100 in 4 Months
Could one unique idea make you a millionaire?
Could you imagine being in college and having a million-dollar idea that actually turned into a million dollars?
That’s exactly what happened in 2005.
Alex Tew, a student in Wiltshire, England, had the idea to create The Million Dollar Homepage in August 2005 when he was 21 years old. The idea is quite simple, but it’s also completely outside the box of normality, and that’s why it was successful.
The website Alex made was a blank canvas of 1,000,000 pixels.
His idea was to sell each pixel on the website for $1. But, since you can’t see a pixel very well, he would sell 10x10 squares of digital real estate for $100 each.
If all of the spots sold, he’d make a million dollars.
It sounds like he was thinking about NFTs and the Metaverse a few decades before everyone else.
So, the website MillionDollarHomepage.com launched in August 2005.
Businesses and people could buy their spot on the website and add their logo, a link to their website, and a preview tagline. You were buying an ad, but there was a risk that no one would visit the website.
