LinkedIn is still one of the best social media platforms to grow your audience and build a business.

LinkedIn and Twitter are two of my favorite platforms because I enjoy writing content more than photos or videos. I’ve spent a lot more time on LinkedIn, and some of my best business leads came from LinkedIn posts.

Recently, I’ve seen big creators like Sahil Bloom and Shaan Puri start posting on LinkedIn. They’re mostly repurposing their Twitter content (where they already have a big following). And both of them have built significant followings.

Unless you have a large following somewhere else, it’ll take some time to build your following. And having the right type of followers is better than the number of followers you have.

I got leads from LinkedIn when I only had a couple hundred followers.

I’m going to share 7 tips that will help you grow on LinkedIn and attract the audience that you want.

1. Get specific with who you help

One of the best LinkedIn features is the search bar.

You can find very specific people, based on where they live, what they do, and where they work. That lets you build the exact audience you want.

To leverage that feature, you need to start with who you’re going to help.

If you’re a copywriter or graphic designer, you could help anyone. That won’t help you build your audience. You need to be more specific.

If you’re a copywriter and want to write emails for D2C eCommerce brands, you know exactly who to connect with on LinkedIn. And the content you post will be more specific, and more interesting to your audience.

2. Optimize your profile

LinkedIn gives you more room to optimize your profile than most other social media platforms.

You have a headline that shows up under your name everywhere you post and comment. That headline should tell people what you do, and how it benefits them.
