It Took 7 Weeks for This Article to Gain Traction
Sometimes you just need to be patient.
I wish I could understand how the Medium algorithm works. But I don’t.
I know that their algorithm is focused on the readers. Medium cares more about their readers than the writers.
They need to.
If Medium serves their readers better content that they love, the readers spend more time reading.
In return, the writers benefit.
Google has never cared about website owners. Google only cares about the people searching for answers. And that’s why they’re the most successful search platform.
So, the only thing I know about Medium is that they want to show readers articles that they’ll find interesting, educational, or entertaining. If I want people to read what I write, it needs to be catered to the reader.
I still don’t understand exactly how Medium chooses which articles to show to a broader audience.
It’s a bit of skill, and a bit of luck. I’ve found that the more I write, the luckier I get.
Last November, I published 38 Medium articles and had three of them go semi-viral. Since then, those 3 articles have gotten 116,000+ views and earned $3,437.
