Learn How To Do Basic SEO in 5 Simple Steps
I’ve been learning SEO for 5 years.
Some days I realize that I’m just scratching the surface — which is true. But I know I’ve got the basics covered.
When I created my first website, I never got any traffic from Google. I was thrilled when I saw the best page on my site ranking #86 for the main keyword.
FYI: no one scrolls to the 9th page of search results. Except for me, checking to see if my article was really there.

Now I have 100s of pages ranking on Page #1.
I’m not going to pretend that you can learn everything you need to know about SEO in this one article. The five things I’m sharing are the basics. To get good at SEO, you’ll need to dive deeper into each topic.
But, when you understand the basic building blocks, learning the rest is much easier.
Step #1 - Keyword research
Getting traffic to your website from Google search starts with keyword research.
You need to do two things to get Google traffic:
- Get your website to show up in the search results.
- Have people search the terms you’re showing up for.
