I ended 2021 on a good note and made $5,274.79 freelancing
2021 was my first full year as a full-time freelancer. It was also one of the most difficult years of my life so far. I dealt with all sorts of challenges with work, struggled financially, and mentally. I had more sleepless nights than I could count, and far too many 16+ hour workdays.
I know some people have it much harder than me, but for me, 2021 was a lot more challenging than 2020. Thankfully I ended the year on a fairly positive note business-wise.
Here’s a quick breakdown of how I earned $5,274 as a solopreneur, working from home and a few coffee shops.

How much I made: $2,319.79
What I did
I posted my first article on Medium on May 23rd 2020. Between May 2020 and August 2021, I posted about 25 articles and earned less than $10. So, in September 2021 I decided it was time to give Medium a real shot.
December 2021 was my best month so far on Medium. In November, I earned $634, so I saw another significant increase.
I actually didn’t publish as many articles as I wanted to last month. But, 4/5 of my top-earning articles were published in November.
This article started going viral at the beginning of December and has earned $1,144 so far — a significant portion of my November + December earnings.
In December, I published 21 new articles. My goal was to publish 35, but I was busy with other projects and started feeling burned out the second half of the month. It’s hard to guess what my January earnings will be, but I’m aiming to publish 25 new articles.
