This week I’ll publish my 300th article on Medium.

I’ve written hundreds more articles for niche websites and for clients. If I had to take a guess, I’d say I’ve written ~1,500 articles in the past 5 years. And I’m writing an average of 15–20 articles every week.

There’s no magic formula to writing. I’ve had to write plenty of articles when I’d rather be doing anything else.

But, after writing hundreds and hundreds of articles, and millions of words, it has become much faster and more efficient.

Depending on the topic, I can take an idea and turn it into a 1,200-word article in under an hour. Some more technical articles can take a few days. I probably spent 15 hours writing a 6,000-word article about SEO.

In this article, I’m going to share a simple process that will help you go from idea to article faster, and with less effort.

Find your idea

Every article starts with an idea.

Writing quickly and writing quality content starts with an idea that you’re excited about. I can write about any topic, but my writing will be noticeably better when I’m excited to write.

I get ideas from many different places, and write down as many ideas as possible.

Write down your headline — or a few different headline options.

That doesn’t mean that will be your headline when you hit publish, it’s simply your starting point.

Research the idea

Your next step is to look at what other people are saying about your topic.

You don’t want to copy exactly what someone else has said, but it is going to direct your writing in some ways.

If everyone is including certain points and answering similar questions, your article better…
